A 1970s Kitchen With No Neutral Anywhere
A Middletown house being reworked room by room, starting with the kitchen. Six recessed cans on one switch, a pendant run over the island on the same circuit, and not a neutral wire in any of the three boxes. We split the island onto its own load so it can be dimmed separately, ran neutrals to all three positions, fitted dimmers and programd a bright Cook scene and a low Evening one. The owner asked us back for the living room six weeks later.
A Front Elevation That Was Dark by Five
A property in Urbana where the only outdoor lighting was two coach lamps either side of the door and a floodlight nobody liked using. We uplit the gables and the two specimen trees, ran path lighting along the drive to the porch, and put the whole run on a transformer with an astronomic timer so it follows real sunset through the year instead of drifting a month out by January. A switched circuit was left at the porch for holiday lighting.
A Basement That Was Either On or Off
A finished basement in New Market with a media area, a bar and a stair, all on two switches with no dimming at all. We put the media area on a dimmer tied to the projector, added low-level step lighting on an occupancy sensor so nobody is blinded going down for a drink at eleven, and gave the bar its own accent circuit. One Movie scene now takes the room down to about fifteen percent and leaves the steps lit.
